Installation Systems

In many cases, cedar signs are mounted directly on to the wall of a building, especially in retail environments. Mounting is done using brackets attached to the back of the sign.

Post Systems

However, if posts are required, Warren Langley Signs offers two popular post systems: the “Crossbar system” and the “Double-post system”. Crossbar posts are ideal for two-sided signs by allowing the sign to project out towards the street to be visible by pedestrian and vehicle traffic from both directions. Double-post systems can also be used for double-sided signs as well as single-sided signs.

Both systems use 6’ to 8’ (180cm to 240cm) long 4”x4” (10cm x 10cm) clear cedar posts which are planed and sandblasted to match the look of the sign. The top of each post is carved to create a decorative cap and in the case of the Crossbar, a decorative brace is added for stability. To protect the posts from the elements, three coats of varnish OR primer and enamel are applied followed by a wood preserver.

The sign is attached using a combination of eye hooks, S-hooks or lag bolts as required. The posts can be installed directly into the ground, however for longer life, Warren recommends pouring a concrete tube or box about 12” (30cm) below ground and protruding 4” (10cm) above ground and setting a painted or galvanized U-bracket into the wet concrete. The posts are then bolted to the U-bracket the next day when the concrete sets.

Warning – Don’t skimp on the post system. Your hand crafted cedar sign is an original and it will look better, stand straighter and last longer if you use a properly fitted and preserved cedar post system. Pressure treated posts can look ugly and may warp over time.
