Salt Spring Dollars

In 2001, Warren was commissioned to co-design and illustrate Salt Spring Island’s local currency, Salt Spring Dollars. An accomplished artist specializing in “West Coast” paintings, two of Warren’s works, “Beached” and “Captain’s Passage” are featured on Salt Spring Dollars $2 and $5 bills. Warren’s mixed media elements comprised of pen and ink, oil paints and digitized computer art.

So successful were the currency designs that they were featured in "A History of the Canadian Dollar," by James Powell, published by the Bank of Canada in 2005. See Warren's work on pages 95-96 (Appendix B: Alternative Money).

Numerous press articles have also been written about Salt Spring Dollars. For those unable to visit Salt Spring Island, the official site sells collectors editions. Uncirculated bills have sold for as much as $30.00 on E-Bay.
